Keith is a drummer who plays guitar. He feeds his family by working his day job, though. He grew up with Creedence Clearwater Revival and Three Dog Night as his "bands to be like." He started playing drums in the eighth grade and picked up some chords on the guitar a year later. Basement bands were a part of his high school curriculum.
His main responsibility was usually vocals, however. In this role, he played with club bands in the southern New Jersey and Philadelphia markets during college. This helped him pay for school, but didn't do great things for his study time ...
He continued singing with bands for a few years after college, then gave it up completely for twenty years or so. It wasn't until he moved to Findlay that he began to kick the rust off his vocal cords and re-learn his way around the drums. Refreshing on the guitar, however, was not quite as easy, as he'd really never learned to play beyond a basic level. So there was the challenge: how to be the next Joe Bonamassa during what remains of his lifetime. Well, it looks like ol' Joe doesn't have to worry, but hey, ya gotta aim high, right? As they say: "try to be a little better today than you were yesterday ..."
Keith has played at Coffee Amici for nearly a decade as a solo act; teamed with his daughter, Mara; as part of the band, Script; but mostly as half of a duo with Jeremy Schlarb on open mic nights. He is happy for that partnership and for Amici, which he has watched become a Findlay landmark. He’s recently joined the Findlay Evangelical Free Church worship team, an assignment for which he is grateful.
Jeremy grew up in the small town of Sebring in Northeastern Ohio. The first instrument he learned to play was the piano starting at the age of 8. After moving to Findlay, he started playing acoustic guitar and soon after got involved playing piano in the contemporary band at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in town. He has since moved on to playing mostly electric guitar and some occasional piano on Sunday mornings in the contemporary band.
He has been coming down to Coffee Amici for over 10 years with Keith for open mic nights. His musical interests include a wide range of genres from classic rock of the 70’s to country to contemporary Christian, with his all-time favorite artist being Dave Matthews.
